This is a very interesting questions, and as a scientist I will have to ensure that it is very different from Earth, in order to see what type life would develop on it.

I would put all the ingredients required for life, such as Carbon and Silicon, which would be the backbones of all organic matter, but at the same time I will have different liquids rather then water, to see if life can exist without water. Temperature would be around the -5 degrees mark, in order to ensure that liquid water is not available, with some wind currents to help chemicals travel from one place to another.

What an awesome question!!! I would take a very different approach to Matthew! While I think it would be an interesting experiment to see if new life forms could exist, I’m more interested in sustaining our life forms that we already have and would make a planet that is just like ours but before the industrial revolution!
I would have a lot of green space, like parks and forests and places to explore and run around in! I’d make it like that so we could use all of the technology that we have now but instead of powering it by burning fossil fuels, I’d make it so we had to use renewable sources, like solar power and wind! I’d also even out the amount of food we produce in the world so no one went hungry.
It’d be like Earth 2.0 so we could learn from all our mistakes and start afresh! And I’d make it close enough to Earth that we could all go over and take all the animals and plants too!

Why stop at just one? I would want to see a range of planets – and I’d make sure I could watch them develop! I’d to observe life evolve and see what species would come to dominate, depending on slightly different ‘starting conditions’ (e.g. gravity, distance from sun, amount of water, etc).

Unfortunately we have one planet, and we as a species I fear are ruining it. Yes, life is wonderful, yes we have accomplished so much, but at what cost? I fear our current lifestyle is unsustainable and unless more research is done to make it sustainable we will, ultimately, run out of time.
Hopefully we could learn from our mistakes here on earth and not spread them around the universe…

I would make Saturn: with its rings it is so unique in the Solar system!
