• Question: We all know that only Thor can pick up his hammer (with a few exclusions). So say if Thor dropped his hammer and hulk tried to pick it up, hulk wouldn't be able to. But what if Thor and hulk grabbed the hammer at the same time (and because hulk is stronger taller) Thor let go, the brief seconds that hulk was in possession of it would hulk be technically holding thor's hammer? So that means that anyone could hold it. Or if Thor was holding the hammer and then hulk picked Thor up would the hulk be holding the hammer? Or would hulk his be holding Thor who is holding the hammer?

Wowzers! That took a few reads to get my head around!!
From my understanding of the hammer (and this only comes from seeing the Marvel films and a vague knowledge of Norse mythology), no one that is unworthy can lift it. So if Thor and the Hulk lifted it up and Thor let go, it would fall to the ground even though the Hulk was still holding on. Maybe something would happen though to make the Hulk let go as soon as Thor did?
If Hulk picked Thor up while Thor was holding his hammer, I would still say Hulk was holding Thor, not the hammer because there’s no direct contact so there wouldn’t be a problem. If you have a glass of water and pick it up, you’re really holding the glass not the water.

Only the worthy can pick Thor’s hammer, and it has no relevance to strength and size.

Lets go through your scenarios then:

If Thor lets go with Hulk holding it the hammer will go smashing into the ground, so although technically Hulk is still grabbing the Thor he would not be in control of the hammer.

If Hulk is picking up Thor he is not picking up the hammer. The hammer is weightless for Thor, as he is worthy and therefore he would not effect the mass of what Hulk is picking up.

Remember, Hulk can always prove himself worthy and pick the hammer to save the world. That might be easier then trying to pick up the hammer for no reason at all.

The question is, *why* can only Thor pick up his hammer? Is it heavy? Is it a forcefield? I must say that I’m not sufficiently familiar with the mythology!

If it is heavy, and only Thor has the strength to lift it, then Hulk would never be able to lift the hammer, nor to lift Thor if Thor is holding his hammer.

If it is a forcefield however you would expect Thor would have an ‘anti-forcefield’ to counteract Mjonir’s forcefield. That being the case, provided Thor is touching the hammer, anyone should be able to pick it up, or pick Thor up holding the hammer….
