Oh I do hope so megan!! I love cheese! Unfortunately all evidence suggests it isn’t. As a scientist though, I don’t believe what I’m told straight away so there’s still a part of me that hopes everyone who says no is wrong! Maybe one day I’ll get to go up there and find out for myself though.
It would be extremely odd if it were… That said, there is a bit of moon-rock in the Science Museum which I’ve seen, and it doesn’t *look* like cheese. But then I’ve never seen any 4 billion year old cheese.
You’ve got to then ask the question, “if it was cheese, why is it there?”
Growing up I used to watch a lot of cartoons, in which the moons was actually made of cheese. If its on cartoons then it must be true, and everything else is a lie, and that was the main reason why most countries have not sent any astronauts to the moon.
Having said that all proof shows that it is not made up of cheese, and it it were it would have to be very hard and condensed cheese. From the distance between the moon and the earth and the dimensions of the moon we can calculate the mass of the moon, which resembles the mass of rock, rather then any delicious cheese.
I guess we could ask if it is a rock, why is it there. It’s all to do with how different atoms came together to form the moon, whatever it is made of. After the Big Bang happened, galaxies, stars, planets and moons formed out of light atoms of hydrogen and helium that combined to form heavier ones.
If it was made of cheese, I guess it would be pretty well preserved! The lack of atmosphere on the moon would mean it had effectively been vacuum packed and bacteria and mould would struggle to grow. So maybe we could eat it…but I wouldn’t want to be the one to go first!!
