Every second week, time permitting – it depends on other commitments as well. When you are a PhD student or a postdoc you are in the lab every day. At a lecturer level, you supervise students or postdocs who are running experiments.

As Francesca said, as a PhD student I’m based in the lab every day so I do at least one experiment a day. I’m aiming to do 2 today so have come in extra early! I’ve got a plan to do at least one experiment every day until Christmas and then I will have to write my thesis (a giant experiment write up on everything I’ve done over the last 3 years!) so won’t be in the lab much then 🙁

Not as often as I’d like – I have to deliver lectures as well, and all too often I find myself pushing paperwork 🙁

I get to do something properly probably once or twice a month – more during the summer time though!

I do experiments on a daily basis, actually trying to do more then one every day, so that whatever happens I will not have idle time while at university. It is not always possible to do so, but the more experiments I do, the better the chances of finding something useful 🙂
