• Question: Did any of you know each other or have heard of one another before I'm a scientist?

I am not sure about the others, but I had no idea who any of the other scientists were. The probability is that after this finishes we will never meet, as our areas of expertise are quite different from each other.

I can’t say I had either! As Matthew said, we work in different areas of chemistry from one another and we’re all from different Universities, cities and even countries!! I love meeting new people though and finding out what they do so it’s been great to meet some more scientists and hear about their work!

Same here, I think we’re from quite a wide range of disciplines (although we all use spectroscopy) so I haven’t come across any of the other scientists. It’s always interesting to hear about new people’s work though!

No, I wasn’t aware of the others I have to say! That said, I’m fairly sure we each work with someone the others have heard of!

And I’m sure you have all heard of Laura’s colleague, Prof. Poliakoff (or at least seen him on YouTube).

The great thing about scientists though is that you will pretty much always have something you can talk about, and – despite what TV shows might have you think – we really are quite a sociable bunch.

No, sorry, but it is my mistake – I should read more!
